Dilli Haat A permanent handicraft market in Delhi's commercial center set-up to imitate traveling village markets, except at DH it's the vendors that rotate. It's intended as a platform for artists and art-lovers from every corner of the country to connect, with different artists rotating through the market's 60 stalls every 15 days. | |
Birla Mandir A 6 acre Hindu temple complex with gardens, shrines, and temples of all sizes inside. Shiva, Krishna, Buddha, & Ganesh all have substantial shrines of their own, but the main temple - the Laxminarayan Mandir - is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It's best known for being inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. | Parliament House Our professor called on a former classmate one afternoon to see if he had any spare time to meet with us. Turns out that classmate was now the Prime Minister's Undersecretary, and a meeting meant lunch at the Parliament House. |
Akshardham Temple The Guinness World Record holder for Largest Comprehensive Hindu Temple that opened in 2005. It's beautiful but incredibly commercialized - the 'Akshardam Experience' involves a feature-length IMAX movie and several hours of walking through rooms of robotic figurine-filled scenes (at least until you reach the room with a boat ride...). | |
Sarojini Nagar Market Although originally opened in the 1950s as part of a housing project for lower level Indian Government employees, present day SN is one of the city's best places to buy cheap brand name clothes and fabrics. | Rajghat A memorial to Mahatma Gandhi built over the site of his cremation and currently home to his ashes.
